Minced Meat Gratin

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Peel and slice the potatoes into 3–4 mm thick rounds.

Boil them in salted water for about 10 minutes, then drain and set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Meat
Peel and finely chop the onions and garlic.

In a large pan, heat the olive oil.

Sauté the onions for about 5 minutes until translucent.

Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Add the ground meat and cook, stirring well, for 8–10 minutes until browned.

Add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, thyme, and oregano.

Season with salt and pepper.

Let it simmer on low heat for 15 minutes until the liquid reduces.

Step 3: Assemble the Gratin
Grease a rectangular baking dish with butter.

Layer the bottom with a layer of potatoes.

Add half of the meat mixture.

Add another layer of potatoes.

Spread the remaining meat, then finish with a final layer of potatoes.
