For the caramel 🍯
100 g sugar
40 g butter
2 tbsp water
For the cake 🍰
3–4 apples (Golden, Gala, or Reine des Reinettes)
3 eggs 🥚
120 g sugar
120 g flour
½ packet baking powder (5 g)
100 g melted butter 🧈
1 packet vanilla sugar or 1 tsp vanilla extract 🌼
1 pinch of salt 🧂
🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
1️⃣ Make the caramel 🍯
In a small saucepan, heat the sugar and water over medium heat without stirring.
When it starts to turn a golden blonde color, add the butter and stir quickly.
Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of a round cake pan (20–22 cm).
💡 Tip: Swirl the pan to coat the base evenly before it hardens.
2️⃣ Prepare the apples 🍏
Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut them into thick slices or quarters.
Arrange them neatly over the caramel in the pan — this will be the decorative top once flipped.
3️⃣ Make the batter 🥣
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla.
Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix gently.
Stir in the melted butter until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
